the aftermath of abuse

Every day, millions of people suffer emotional, spiritual, and physical abuse at the hands and words of those closest to them.

the effects of trauma

Few people truly understand the underlying wreckage that remains in a person’s soul…and body…from past experiences.

the loss of faith

For many, these traumas and abuses run deep into the very fabric of their beliefs, and they don’t know where to turn or what to believe anymore.

Welcome Friend!

My name is Emily and I am passionate about trauma recovery.

After growing up in a home with domestic violence and being raised in a fundamentalist, patriarchal cult for 23 years, I made the courageous (reckless?) decision to walk away from everything I knew and embark on what has become the most wild ride of my life.

What started as a personal journey soon transformed into a mission: to both spread awareness about the life-altering effects of trauma, and to teach others how to find true healing.

Thriving Forward was founded on two beliefs:
  1. Every survivor has a story that deserves to be told and heard.
  2. Victims of abuse don't have to stay stuck in survival mode — they can learn how to thrive!
You are no longer alone, Friend. I invite you to join with me on this journey of seeking long-lasting healing.

I was abused by 3 different men in my life. All three the guilt was placed on me you page has truly helped me see that it was NOT my fault. The problem lays solely with them and the people that enabled them.

~ Louise

I only found your page a few days ago but it already has given me a warmth. The feeling that I’m not alone and that life will be ok someday. 🦋

Emily is truly an inspiration to people who are still suffering greatly from the abuse they have endured in the past. She is encouraging but real. She shares hope to the the people who feel like there is none.

~ Nicole

I’m not only encouraged daily by Thriving Forward but the striking insights Emily produces give me traction in my recovery process. Much of what she says is more relevant to my life experience even than help I’ve gotten from professional counseling. Trauma recovery from the types of abuse she & I each respectively grew up in is a niche speciality. And she specializes superbly!!!

~ Chelsea Wells of Table Salt Ministries

As a survivor of betrayal trauma and spiritual abuse, Emily’s posts helped shed light on the lies that kept me in bondage for many years. Her story of surviving and thriving after abuse is an inspiration to me as I heal and rebuild my life. She is an example of what it means to hold on to a pure faith even after God’s word was weaponized against her. Thank you Emily for being a light to all abuse survivors.

I have followed Thriving Forward for about a year now. I have friends in my life who are going through different traumas and I have continued to be their support. I have love how thriving forward is a great resource that I can recommend for people to follow. Emily speaks on purity culture, abuse and more. She is doing great work and I appreciate her courage and story.
