Were you trained to believe that, as a woman, you must fit into a very specific mold -- one of a quiet, submissive housewife -- and now you feel you've lost your voice?
Have you experienced abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, or spiritual) by spiritual leaders or family members who demanded absolute loyalty from you?
Do you feel like you lack skills for healthy relationships, and are struggling to function successfully as autonomous adults?
I am a writer, advocate, and founder of Thriving Forward.
When I broke away from a fundamentalist cult at just 24 years old, I felt incredibly lost as I began to navigate the outside world, crippled by the emotional and physical devastation of childhood abuse and chronic illness.
I started Thriving Forward to give other women the resources I needed when I was just breaking free — so they can find their own way with support and guidance, and never have to feel alone again.
Women who have left fundamentalist cultures tend to feel completely lost once they leave their tight-knit communities and must face the world alone. They’re left questioning God’s opinion of them and wondering if it’s possible to reconstruct a faith to something that does not enable abuse. They struggle to create healthy distance from unhealthy people in their lives and they desperately desire to build new relationships with healthy boundaries.
Women in Thriving Forward’s online private support groups immediately gain access to a library of educational resources as well as a welcoming, safe community of survivors!
